Desert Rose
A type of gypsum and barite
(selenite) that grows in the formation of rosettes due to arid, sandy
conditions. The name Selenite is named
after the Greek goddess of the Moon, Selene, because of its moon like glow. As a stone of the mind, it is said to bring
mental clarity, strengthen mental ability and increase perception of all kinds,
including intuitive perception. It is
used to quiet worries and still the mind and as such, it is helpful to strengthen
meditation. It is especially helpful in
meditation where you desire to access past or future lives. Desert Rose assists in strengthening
decisions yet allowing some flexibility while bringing material pursuits
related to business.
It is considered very healing as it
works on all of the Chakra’s, but especially the heart chakra. The longer the stone is with you, the
stronger the since of calmness and tranquility it will bring. It helps to release old belief systems and
gently grounding scattered energy.
History: History: This is the mineral gypsum. This distant cousin of calcite, selenite belongs to the Satin-Spar crystal family along with Aragonite. Selenite (CaSO4·2H2O) is a hydrous calcium sulfate, as it is composed of oxygen, sulfur, hydrogen, calcium and water. Selenite has been found in a variety of environments and geological locations and growing in different forms Found floating in beds of clay not attached to any type of matrix or host stone. Selenite can grow in curved patterns and flower-like petals and are called Desert Rose. The Selenite Rose is sometimes confused with the barite rose. The edges of the desert rose are sharper and the crystalline structure is less hard than the barite rose.
