Ahh…the Lovers card.  I’m sure in the early days of the Tarot this card was rather simple to depict.  However, in modern times this card can prove troublesome.  In the sky you see three major romantic orientations represented by their gender symbols: heterosexual, gay and lesbian.  The Lovers card is often referred to as the marriage of opposites.  You can see the sword and the cup, the yin and yang, the sun and moon, and the two rings joined together.  The word opposites does not have to mean gender opposites.  Two people of the same gender can be in a relationship, one person expressing a different archetype than the other.  You also see the repetition of twos.  Observe the two pillars, two mountains, two trees, two statues, and the two lovers.  The lovers are depicted in a rather foggy, androgynous way, allowing the reader to drift into the real intent of the card.  The flames below the lovers show the heat of passion while the rings below the fire show unity.  The Tree of Life, shown beneath the rings, heralds the future while the other cupid has an arrow.  The red roses symbolize love and affection, and the generally happy, though surreal, scene depicts the bringing together of the two.

Face up Meaning: Love and relationship.  Support to overcome trials.  Harmony, beauty, and perfection.  The marriage of fire and water; individuality and sameness.  Choosing a partner.  Being responsible.  Emotional fulfillment.  A meaningful relationship.  Having an affair.  Optimistic point of view.  Trust and honor.  Deep yearnings for another.  Taking a higher path.  Using both the conscious and unconscious minds.  Becoming far more than the sum of your parts.  Sexual energy and passion for another.

Reversed Meaning: The end of a relationship.  Poorly thought out relationships.  Separation.  Being unfulfilled in love or marriage.  Not being supported.  Fickle and untrustworthy.  Unable to find the right partner.  Having different goals.  Feeling like you can’t make a decision.  Heartsick.  Unable to move forward with another.

Message for the day: With all the wonderful things available in this world, as you continue to walk along your true path, expect either today or in the near future to encounter someone or something that you will make an instant connection with.  This connection will undoubtedly be love and the next decisions you will make will be up to you.  You can readjust your path to include this person or thing, or you can leave the love behind.  Without a doubt, there will be spiritual hardship with either choice you make, but which is the best choice for you, depends on what your guides tell you.  Now is a good time for some deep meditation before you make a final decision.
