Celebrating Spirituality Through Knowledge

Celebrating Spirituality

On this day:

In southern England today is Saint Distaff’s Day.  This was when work began again after the Christmas holiday.  Saint Distaff’s Day was not a saint’s day at all, but rather a tongue-in-cheek commemoration of the day on which women returned to their distaffs of unspun wool.

Medical tip of the day:

Room temperature – When dealing with a person who is sick, keep the room at a normally comfortable temperature, about 70 degrees Fahrenheit.  Older people are particularly susceptible to chills, so take care to maintain the temperature.  Unless it is extremely cold outside, keep a window slightly open to keep the air fresh.  In hot weather, cool drinks and a fan to circulate air will help prevent overheating.

Herb of the day:

Rosemary

Gender: Masculine

Planet: Sun

Element: Fire

Powers: Protection, Love, Lust, Mental powers, Exorcism, Purification, healing, Sleep, Youth

Magical Uses: Rosemary, when burned, emits powerful cleansing and purifying vibrations and so is smoldered to rid a place of negativity, especially prior to performing magic.  It is one of the oldest incenses.

When placed beneath the pillow, rosemary ensures a good sleep and drives away nightmares.  Laid under the bed it protects the sleeper from all harm.  Rosemary is also hung on the porch and door posts to keep thieves from the house and is carried to remain healthy.  Placed in the bath it purifies the person.

A chaplet of rosemary, worn, aids the memory, while the wood, smelled often preserves youthfulness.  To ensure the latter add a rosemary infusion to the bath water.

Rosemary has long been used in love and lust incenses and other mixtures, and haling pouches are stuffed with rosemary to take advantage of its curative vibrations.  Rosemary infusion is used to wash the hands before healing work, and the leaves mixed with juniper berries are burned in sickrooms to promote healing.

If you wish to receive knowledge or the answer to a question, burn rosemary on charcoal and smell its smoke.  Rosemary is also grown to attract elves and the powdered leaves wrapped in linen cloth and bound to the right arm dispel depression and make the emotions light and merry.

Rosemary is generally used as a substitute for frankincense.

Stone of the Day:
Unakite
Unakite is a stone of vision.  It balances emotions with spirituality.  Placed on the third eye, it opens it and promotes visualization and psychic vision.  This stone also provides grounding when it is needed and can be useful after meditation or psychic work.

Unakite can be used as a casting crystal for scrying, signifying where compromise and integration are needed.  The best way to use it is with ten or twelve other suitable stones.  The tumbled stones should be kept together in a bag.  One stone is then selected to answer a question, or a handful are cast onto a scrying wheel.

Placed in the environment, either as a large piece or as several tumbled stones in a bowl, unakite brings a calm gentle energy and can negate the effects of electromagnetic pollution from television sets if placed on top or close by.

Unakite facilitates rebirthing, bringing to light and integrating insights from the past about the cause of blockages and gently releasing conditions that inhibit spiritual and psychological growth.  It is also helpful in past-life healing for going back to the source of a problem and reframing it.  Unakite can be held or placed on the third eye for this purpose.

Whether disease arises in the far or near past, unakite reaches the root cause of it at whatever level it occurs, bringing it to the surface so that it can be transformed.

Healing: Unakite is supportive in convalescence and recovery from a major illness.  It treats the reproductive system, stimulates weight gain where required, and aids healthy pregnancy and the growth of skin tissue and hair.
