Celebrating Spirituality - January 23, 2013

Celebrating Spirituality

On this day: On this date, the annual Egyptian festival of Hathor took place.  Hathor (Greek for Athyr), meaning ‘the dwelling of Horus,’ was the patroness of women, a mistress of merriment and sovereign of music and dance.  Her temples were a home of intoxication and a place of enjoyment.  In addition to being a Goddess of joy and love, Hathor watched over the dead.  She bore the title of “Queen of the West,” where she would wait in the foliage of the sycamore tree, at the edge of the desert, and welcome the dead with bread and water.

Magical Activity
Love-Drawing Bath

Sprinkle ¼ cup fresh rose petals and ¼ cup fresh lavender buds into your bath water.  While soaking in the herbal water chant the following:

Let true love now come to me,

For this I will so mote it be.

Stay in the tub for 15 minutes and meditate on the type of person you wish to attract.

Medical tip of the day: Self-hypnosis

The use of hypnosis at home usually evolves out of professional treatment from a hypnotherapist and involves guidance at the outset.  Once a hypnotherapist has helped you to develop a therapeutic trance, as mentioned above, self-hypnosis is a simple matter of using your memory of the trance to regain the condition.  Using self-hypnosis, you can aid our own healing by learning to relax, to control emotionally based problems or habits, and to reduce emotionally based problems or habits, and to reduce pain and other medical problems.  But even without seeing a hypnotherapist, there are ways you can gain benefit from a type of self-induced trance.  Practiced daily, the simple technique outlined below can be used to influence a wide range of problems.

Self-image thinking
Sitting down in a comfortable position, begin by relaxing, following a standard relaxation routine if desired.  As you let all the tension slip out of your body, form a mental picture of anything that occurs to you.

Once completely relaxed, let the visual image change under your direction into an image of yourself.  Spend all the time you need to build the mental image into a person who is healthy and possessed of the qualities you desire such as confidence, calm, etc.  Build the desired qualities from your imagination, or recall a time when you experienced that quality and concentrate on the feelings you had at that time in your life.

Eventually you will be able to see a visual image of yourself possessing all the qualities you desire to reach your goal.  The longer you keep it up, the more clearly you will be able to see this self-image.

Hold the self-image as long as you experience the feelings it displays.  Then let the background scene change slowly, until you see yourself doing things with the new or desired feelings – perhaps playing a game without the pain of arthritis, or sitting at a desk tackling a problem with fresh hope and curiosity.

Herb of the day: Dragon’s Blood
Folk Name: Blood, Blume, Calamus Draco, Draconis Resina, Dragon’s Blood Palm
Gender: Masculine
Planet: Mars
Element: Fire
Powers: Love, Protection, Exorcism, Potency
Magical Uses: This resin from a palm tree is burned to entice errant lovers to return.  This is usually done by women seated near an open window, looking outside, at night.
A stick of dragon’s blood placed under the pillow or mattress will cure impotency.
The dried resin is a powerful protectant when carried, sprinkled around the house, or smoldered as incense.  It will also drive evil and negativity away when burned.
A pinch of dragon’s blood added to other incenses increases their potency and power.
To quiet a noisy house, powder some dragon’s blood, mix it with sugar and salt, and place it in a bottle. Cover this tightly and secure it somewhere in your house where it won’t be found.  You’ll have peace and quiet.

Stone of the Day: Rhodonite

Attributes: Rhodonite is an emotional balancer that nurtures love and encourages the brotherhood of humanity.  It has the ability to show both sides of an issue.  This stone stimulates, clears, and activates the heart and the heart chakra.  It grounds energy, balances yin-yang, and aids in achieving one’s highest potential.  It is said to enhance mantra based meditation, aligning the soul more closely to the vibration.
A useful “first aid stone,” Rhodonite heals emotional shock and panic, lending a supportive energy to the soul during the process. It is extremely beneficial in cases of emotional self-destruction, codependency, and abuse.  Rhodonite clears away emotional wounds and scars from the past – whenever that might me – and brings up for transmutation painful emotions such as festering resentment or anger.  This stone has a strong resonance with forgiveness and assists in reconciliation after long-term pain and abuse.  It can be used in past-life healing to deal with betrayal and abandonment.  With its ability to promote unselfish self-love and forgiveness, it helps in taking back projections that blame the partner for what is really inside the self.
Rhodonite is a useful stone to turn back insults and to prevent retaliation.  It recognizes that revenge is self-destructive and promotes remaining calm in dangerous or upsetting situations.
Rhodonite balances and integrates physical and mental energies.  It builds up confidence and alleviates confusion.
Healing: Rhodonite is an excellent wound healer that also relieves insect bites.  It can reduce scarring.  It beneficially affects bone growth and the hearing organs, fine-tuning auditory vibrations, and stimulates fertility.  This stone treats emphysema, inflammation of joints and arthritis, autoimmune diseases, stomach ulcers, and multiple sclerosis.  Use the elixir as a rescue remedy for shock or trauma.
